Greg: I particularly remember trying at the end of our chorus (“have you, made the most of your life”) to employ a key change that made the chorus in Yesterday so memorable and, playing it at Mike’s, getting a buzz hearing him say from the next room “hey, THAT’s nice”. Originally simply titled “for John”, it was changed to 'Fields and Sunny Skies' to make it less maudlin and more universal in appeal. Fields will always be special for us as it was our first song, and one of our strongest. We recorded it first but, when we got round to a final mix it had “disappeared” from the hard disk. We re-recorded it late in the evening after roughly 8 hours straight on our first day in the studio.

Fast-forward 20 years from the writing of this, my very first song, and a local Gold Coast couple covered it. They re-arranged and performed it from scratch in their own commercial studio. Both Mike and I were blown away by how good it sounded, and this professional re-imagining confirmed our long-held belief that it was a solid song. It can be found on Spotify with artist name Jennifer Matthews. I re-jigged my REDUX video< to incorporate her recording, and it is shown at bottom of this page.
